Course Brief

Tai Chi is an integrated mind and body exercise with a focus on control of movements for breathing and overall wellbeing. Originally derived from Chinese martial arts, tai chi focuses awareness of the motions of muscles and joints, breathing and movement. 

This class focuses specifically on Sun style which is known for its smooth, flowing movements and its gentle postures. It is particularly helpful for arthritis.  

Benefits of tai chi include: 

  • Improved balance, muscle strength and flexibility 

  • Lower blood pressure, decreased inflammation 

  • Reduced stress and anxiety 

What you will learn

  • Tai chi basic movements 

  • Introduction to Qigong breathing and stretching 

  • Tai chi sequence  

  • Generating flow through movements (intermediate to advanced) 

What to bring

  • Loose fitting clothes  

  • Flat comfortable shoes (preferable runners, please note, sandals are not suitable) 

  • Water bottle

Kheng Lau

Kheng Lau is a fully accredited Tai Chi instructor with many years of experience teaching students from beginners to advanced. She is currently teaching at a number of community centres.
