Course Brief

Yoga involves calm breathing techniques, mindfulness and meditation to help improve your overall health wellbeing. Regular yoga practice can reduce joint pain, improve flexibility and muscle strength and help protect against injuries such as falls. Yoga can also have many mental health benefits, improving your mood, reducing stress and anxiety and can even make you happier!

Our general Hatha style yoga class focuses on poses (asanas), breath work (pranayama), relaxation (savasana) and meditation and is suited to participants with some yoga experience. Hatha yoga uses stretching techniques to release tension, increase flexibility and create a sense of calm.

Yoga poses include seated, standing, kneeling, lying and balance positions. Alternative poses are always available and the class can be adjusted to suit your individual needs.

What you will learn

  • to appreciate stillness, to find contentment in the small things and to be grateful every day

  • to stretch the muscular body, to extend the breath and to quieten the mind

  • postures and practices to align, strengthen and promote flexibility

What to bring

  • yoga mat and water bottle

  • comfortable clothing

  • optional any other equipment that might help you such as blanket, towel, blocks, strap, and/or bolster

Susi Mioni

Susie began practicing yoga more than 20 years ago for its physical benefits, particularly to relieve back pain. Her passion led her to complete formal Iyengar yoga training in 2008. As a qualified instructor, Susie has completed additional courses including meditation, Purna Yoga, Yin Yoga as well as Yoga for Seniors and Falls Prevention.

“My mind and spirit are continually being refreshed and nurtured and my body is in great physical condition as I continue my yoga journey, hopefully for many years ahead. It’s not about the pose as such, it’s about the attitude, the desire to improve and stay healthy and to accept that your body changes as you get older. Yoga has taught me that it is good to listen to your intuition and to act on the wisdom that is inherently in you”.
